Rainier Schaefer grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii then moved to San Francisco to obtain a degree in physiology from San Francisco State University. What at first was an economic and environmental alternative to driving quickly turned into his foremost hobby. A lot of his riding is done on the Velodrome in San jose or the hills around Marin, Oakland, and the Peninsula. When not riding he spends his time studying, socializing, reading and mushroom foraging.
